
Seven inmates who had escaped from different prisons during the Genji movement have been arrested in Jhapa.
According to Acting Information Officer Prabin Shrestha of the District Police Office, five male and two female prisoners who had fled from Sundhara Central Jail in Kathmandu, Jhumka Prison in Sunsari, and Kaski Prison on Bhadra 24 were taken into custody.
Among those arrested are 28-year-old Ruksar Khatun and 28-year-old Eksara Khatun from Gauradaha Municipality–5, who had escaped from Sundhara Prison. Both surrendered themselves to the District Police Office after the government issued a notice urging escaped prisoners to return.
Similarly, 33-year-old Dinesh Soren of Kanakai Municipality–6, who was serving a sentence for murder and had fled from Kaski Prison, was arrested from his own house after locals tipped off the police.
In a related case, 23-year-old inmate Nawal Kishor, who had escaped to Kishanganj, India via the southern border, was arrested by Indian police and handed over to the Kechana Area Police Office. He is reported to be an Indian national.
Meanwhile, 45-year-old Balbahadur Rai of Kanakai Municipality–4, convicted of rape and escaped from Jhumka Prison, was handed over to the police by his family. Two other prisoners who had escaped from Sundhara Prison have also been apprehended.
