At least seven people have died after landslides triggered by heavy rains struck Davao de Oro and Davao Oriental provinces in the southern Philippines, authorities said on Friday.
The Philippine Red Cross reported that three bodies were recovered from affected areas in Monkayao town of Davao de Oro. Authorities are continuing to assess the affected areas to ensure the safety of residents, said Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon through social media.
In Davao Oriental, a landslide in Mati City claimed the lives of four members of the same family, according to the city’s fire station. Gordon stated that Red Cross branches in the affected provinces remain on high alert, maintaining continuous monitoring and rapid response operations.
Meanwhile, flooding affected communities in Bislig City of Surigao del Sur, where volunteers assisted impacted families in moving to safer areas. The Red Cross said it continues to coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices to assess damage and ensure the safety of affected residents.
