A 60-year-old shepherd, Arjun Ghale of Barpak Sulikot Rural Municipality–1, Gorkha, died after being swept away by a river while trying to save his sheep, according to Indra Prasad Suvedi, Deputy Superintendent of Police at Gorkha District Police Office.
The incident occurred around 4 PM on Saturday when Ghale was bringing his sheep home from grazing in the forest. As the animals fell into the Kiswra River, Ghale jumped in to rescue them but was swept away by the current.
Police, along with local residents, recovered Ghale’s body from a 40-foot-deep gorge below the river at 7 PM on the same day. His body has been sent to Gorkha Provincial Hospital for postmortem, and further investigation into the incident is ongoing, Suvedi stated.
