The silence period under the House of Representatives member election will begin from midnight tonight. Political parties and candidates are allowed to carry out election campaigning only until today.
According to the Election Commission Nepal, the silence period will come into effect from 12:00 midnight on Monday. During this period, any form of election campaigning or related activities is strictly prohibited. As per the Commission, the silence period must be observed from 48 hours prior to polling day until the polling centers close on the day of voting.
The Commission has stated that during this time, no discussions, interactions, mass meetings, workshops, seminars, or similar activities related to election promotion are allowed.
Similarly, all campaign materials placed within 300 meters of polling centers must be removed 48 hours before voting day. No candidate or political party is permitted to solicit votes or conduct election publicity through any method, process, or medium during the silence period.
Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari warned that if any candidate or political party is found violating the code of conduct during the silence period, the candidate’s nomination may be canceled.
