Traffic police have arrested six drivers in Kathmandu Valley for driving under the influence of narcotics. The arrests were made during a regular traffic inspection conducted by the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office in Sukedhara.
According to office spokesperson Naresh Raj Subedi, the six individuals were found operating vehicles after consuming illegal substances. The arrested drivers include:
- Shekhar Nath Ghimire (39), Pathao motorbike rider from Arjundhara-6, Jhapa
- Sajid Ansari (33) from Pacharauta-6, Bara
- Suman Pariyar (22) from Belkotgadhi Municipality, Nuwakot
- Suraj Kumar Bajgain (47) from Banepa-3, Kavrepalanchok
- Kapil Thapa (32), public bus driver from Thaha Municipality-4, Makwanpur
- Bhim Bahadur Khadka (22), Bolero jeep driver from Salyan
They have been sent to the respective police offices for further investigation.
Traffic police have been conducting regular inspections across the Valley to detect drunk and drug-impaired driving. Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Chief Navaraj Adhikari urged all drivers, especially those operating public vehicles, to strictly avoid driving under the influence.
He said, “Public vehicle drivers carry many passengers — driving after consuming alcohol or drugs puts many lives at risk. We strongly urge drivers not to engage in such behavior. Anyone violating this will face legal action.”
