Six people lost their lives and three others were seriously injured in a jeep accident that occurred on Sunday evening at Bhimphedi in Makwanpur, along the short-distance Kathmandu–Hetauda route.
The accident took place at Jurikhet, Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–6, when a Tata Sumo jeep (registration number Na 1 Ja 1778) traveling from Kathmandu to Hetauda went out of control and plunged nearly 100 meters down into a ravine. Six people died on the spot, while the injured were rescued and sent for medical treatment.
According to the Makwanpur District Police Office, the identities of the deceased and injured were confirmed about 12 hours after the accident. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pushkar Bogati said the deceased include 40-year-old Sabita Lamsal of Kamaldanda, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City–4, and 29-year-old Nikhil Agrawal of Kantirajpath, Hetauda–2.
Police have also confirmed the deaths of Indian nationals in the accident. Those killed include 42-year-old Rajnish Kumar from Patna, Bihar, and 50-year-old Arbind Kumar from Begusarai, Bihar. The identities of two other deceased men, estimated to be around 35 and 40 years old, have not yet been established.
The seriously injured include the driver, 40–45-year-old Ganesh Thapa of Hetauda–4, and 12-year-old Abhyas Lamsal, son of the deceased Sabita Lamsal. After initial treatment at Hetauda Hospital, both were referred to the Old Medical College in Bharatpur, Chitwan, for further treatment. Police said their condition remains critical. Another injured person, Richa Chaudhary of Chandrapur–2, Rautahat, is receiving treatment at Hetauda Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
