The stock market will remain closed today and tomorrow following the government’s decision to declare October 5 and 6 (Asoj 19 and 20) as public holidays due to continuous heavy rainfall.
The market, which was expected to resume regular trading after the long Dashain holiday, has been closed again because of adverse weather conditions. Considering the nationwide impact of the relentless rain, the government has decided to close financial institutions, government offices, and educational institutions for two days.
Investors had anticipated increased activity in the market following Dashain, but continuous disruptions have heightened uncertainty among them.
However, experts say that the short-term closure is unlikely to have a major negative impact on the market. They note, though, that investor sentiment has been affected, and initial trading may see fluctuations once the market reopens due to consecutive holidays and unstable weather conditions.
