As the Nepali Congress’ 15th General Convention approaches, cooperation and coordination between General Secretary Gagan Thapa and leader Bishwprakash Sharma appear to be strengthening.
Both leaders, who won from different factions in the 14th General Convention, have recently been aligning on issues ranging from parliamentary and governmental oversight to cooperative fraud, land bills, and border disputes.
Recently, they jointly proposed amendments to the Land Bill, which created pressure on the government and top leaders.
Consistently active in the parliament, both Thapa and Sharma also played a key role in forming a high-level investigation committee into cooperative fraud cases.
They have even taken a common stance on issues such as the Deputy Speaker controversy and opposition to the India–China agreement to open trade at Lipulekh.
However, differences remain on some issues. Notably, Thapa has shown reluctance to fully support Sharma’s stance that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba should not serve a sixth term, causing some dissatisfaction.
Regarding the 15th General Convention, their perspectives also differ: Thapa is preparing to contest for the party presidency, while Sharma has stated that he will clarify his strategy later, without rushing.
