Sudhan Gurung, coordinator of the We Are Nepal organization, has warned that elections cannot take place unless the demands raised by the “Gen Z” movement are fulfilled.
Speaking on Thursday morning (Kartik 27) in Lainchaur, Kathmandu—where he had gone regarding the demolition of structures built on Nepal Scouts’ land operated by Khadka Land Pvt. Ltd.—Gurung said that nearly all Gen Z members are united on one front and firm about their demands.
“The entire Gen Z team is together—only a few are here and there,” he said. “How can an election be held without fulfilling our demands? The Home Minister must take responsibility for this.”
Gurung accused Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal of failing to act despite being directly involved in every negotiation with Gen Z representatives.
He stated, “He (Aryal) was with us even at the army headquarters. At the President’s Office, I was introduced as a constitutional expert. Didn’t they know whether our demands would be met or not? If those promises are not honored, then we’ve been betrayed.”
Gurung also criticized the Home Minister for prioritizing elections instead of addressing the movement’s agenda.
“If our demands are not met, it will be considered a betrayal by the Home Minister,” he said, adding that another round of protests would follow if the Gen Z demands continue to be ignored.
