Sudurpaschim Royals registered their third consecutive victory in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) after defeating Karnali Yaks by 45 runs, driven by an all-round performance from captain Dipendra Singh Airee.
Chasing a target of 140 runs, Karnali were bowled out for 94 runs in 19.2 overs. Airee delivered an impressive spell, taking 4 wickets for 23 runs in 4 overs.
For Karnali, Pawan Sarraf scored 27 runs while Mark Watt contributed 17. Karnali captain Sompal Kami claimed 3 wickets, while Sudurpaschim’s Harmit Singh and Avinash Bohara picked up 2 wickets each.
With this win, Sudurpaschim sit at the top of the points table with 6 points from 3 matches.
Earlier, in the first match played yesterday, Sandeep Lamichhane’s outstanding bowling performance led Biratnagar Kings to a 9-run win over Janakpur Bolts, marking Biratnagar’s third straight victory as well.
Defending a target of 136 runs, Biratnagar restricted Janakpur to 126 for 9 in 20 overs, with Sandeep taking 4 wickets for just 11 runs in 4 overs.
In the standings, Biratnagar are second with 6 points, while Karnali—who have 1 win and 2 losses from 3 matches—stand third with 2 points. Janakpur, having lost both their matches, sit at the bottom with zero points.
Meanwhile, in today’s NPL fixture, Kathmandu Gorkhas will face Lumbini Lions at 4:00 PM at the TU Cricket Ground. Both teams had secured victories in their opening matches of the tournament. Earlier on Saturday, Biratnagar had defeated Kathmandu, while Karnali beat Lumbini.
