The Supreme Court of Nepal has fully resumed operations starting today. Following the arson and destruction during the GenZ movement on Bhadra 24, the court had been functioning only partially.
According to the Supreme Court, the Full Court meeting held on Kartik 21 decided to fully restart all halted services and resume hearing of safeguarded cases from Mangsir 1.
The Full Court stated:
“Since the case files were protected from destruction, the cases scheduled for hearings will proceed as per the previously assigned dates from Mangsir 1. Other cases without scheduled dates will be heard in accordance with the law. This notice is issued for all concerned stakeholders.”
With operations restored, the court has resumed registration and hearings of all cases, including appeal petitions, review petitions, and rehearing applications.
The Supreme Court building had suffered extensive physical damage during the GenZ protests, and several case files had been burned. However, the Information Technology section of the court has successfully recovered the digital data and case records, allowing full functionality to restart.
