Kathmandu — The Supreme Court is set to continue hearing today on a writ petition challenging the decision to withdraw certain charges against Rabi Lamichhane, chairman of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP).
The case is being heard by a joint bench of Justices Binod Sharma and Abdul Aziz Musalman. The hearing has been ongoing since Monday after being kept under “hearing in progress.”
Earlier, Attorney General Sabita Bhandari had directed district government attorney offices to amend the charges against Lamichhane. The directive stated that only the cooperative fraud case should proceed, while charges related to organized crime and money laundering be dropped, despite being under consideration in multiple districts.
Challenging this decision, senior advocate Dinesh Tripathi, law student Ayush Badal, and Yubaraj Paudel Safal filed the writ petition at the Supreme Court.
The controversial directive, endorsed on Poush 30 in a seven-page “note and order,” instructed prosecutors to pursue only the cooperative fraud case against Lamichhane, excluding the more serious charges.
