Following a Supreme Court order to investigate the extrajudicial killing of Kumar Paudel, former Home Minister and UML Vice-Chair Ram Bahadur Thapa may come under investigation.
Paudel was killed during Thapa’s tenure as Home Minister, raising the possibility of his involvement being scrutinized. The Supreme Court of Nepal has already issued a mandamus directing authorities to carry out a proper investigation into the incident in Sarlahi.
Along with Thapa, then Inspector General of Police Sarendra Khanal and other officials could also be drawn into the probe. The court has ordered an investigation against 10 individuals, including the former Home Minister.
The mandamus, issued on March 12 (Falgun 29), has paved the way for authorities to investigate Thapa and others, including Bagmati Mayor Bharat Thapa, in connection with the alleged killing. They may now face inquiry under homicide charges.
