The Supreme Court of Nepal has ordered an investigation into the killing of Kumar Paudel, a cadre associated with the Communist Party of Nepal (Biplav faction).
Following the order, police will now investigate a formal complaint filed against former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa (Badal), former Inspector General of Police Sarvendra Khanal, and then Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Raut, among others.
After Kumar’s killing, his mother Durga Devi Paudel had filed a formal complaint at the District Police Office Sarlahi demanding investigation and action against those involved.
Claiming that the complaint was not investigated, she later filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court.
Nearly five years later, a joint bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Sharma and Shrikant Paudel on Thursday ordered authorities to proceed with the investigation.
