The Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an interim order directing schools to begin new student admissions only after the start of the new academic session.
The order states that schools must not publish admission notices when annual exam results have not yet been published, the new academic session has not begun, and students have not received essential original documents such as mark sheets as required by Rule 78(1)(g) of the Education Regulations, 2059.
A single bench of Justice Bal Krishna Dhakal issued the order, emphasizing that student admission procedures must be conducted only after the academic session officially starts, in accordance with the Education Regulations, 2059. The new academic session begins every year from Baisakh 2.
The order highlights the need for proper coordination between exam results, the academic session timeline, and the availability of required certificates.
The Court has instructed the concerned authorities to act in accordance with prevailing laws and has ordered the defendants to submit a written response within 15 days.
Earlier, a notice published on Chaitra 5 by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Nepal and the Education Development and Human Resource Development Center had directed schools to conduct admission programs only after publishing annual exam results and after the start of the new academic session 2083.
However, the Court noted that, contrary to this directive, various admission notices have recently been published in print and electronic media.
