The Supreme Court of Nepal is scheduled to hear habeas corpus petitions today demanding the release of former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and former Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
The petition on behalf of Oli was filed by his wife Radhika Shakya, while Yashoda Lekhak filed a similar petition on behalf of Lekhak.
The writs argue that both Oli and Lekhak are being held in police custody unlawfully and seek their immediate release.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Kathmandu District Court granted permission to keep them in custody for five days for investigation.
Police arrested Oli and Lekhak on Saturday based on the recommendations of an investigation commission formed to probe the incidents that occurred during the Genji protest on Bhadra 23 and 24.
Following his arrest, Oli has been admitted for treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, while Lekhak remains in police custody.
