Locals were left alarmed after a suspicious object was discovered on Tuesday afternoon in the Lakeside area of Pokhara, a major tourist hub.
The object was found in front of Hotel Fewa Suites along Lalupate Marg (Street 41) in Lakeside. According to locals, a pressure cooker-like item was spotted inside an unattended bag placed by the roadside, prompting them to inform the police.
Following the report, teams from the Kaski District Police Office and Ward Police Office Baidam cordoned off the area and halted movement in and out of the site.
A bomb disposal team from the Nepali Army has arrived at the scene and begun inspection. Eyewitnesses said a steel container was found inside the bag, and the army is conducting technical examinations suspecting it could be an explosive device. According to the District Police Office, the road has been completely sealed off as a precautionary security measure.
With increasing political protests and election-related activities in recent days, security concerns in public places have heightened across Nepal. In particular, authorities have adopted high alert measures in tourist centers like Pokhara to ensure the safety of both domestic and international visitors.
The army team is preparing to use robotic or remote-controlled technology to identify the object. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for placing the suspicious item. Police have intensified efforts to identify suspects by reviewing CCTV footage.
“We received information from locals about a suspicious object found on Lalupate Marg in Lakeside. Suspecting it could be an explosive, the Nepali Army team has reached the site,” the Kaski District Police Office told Nepal Khabar. “The actual situation will be known shortly.”
