The Tanhun police have taken 30 prisoners, who escaped from Kaski Jail during the Gen-Z protest, back into custody.
The inmates had fled the jail taking advantage of the chaos during the protest. According to ASP Ashok Thapa, spokesperson for the Tanhun District Police Office, the prisoners were apprehended through various checkpoints and security operations.
“Despite the security challenges, our team worked day and night to successfully bring the prisoners under control,” Thapa said. Some of the captured prisoners were hiding locally, while others were caught by the police while attempting to flee to other districts.
The operation was carried out in coordination with the Armed Police, local police stations, and informants, and was deemed successful. “Any activities that threaten public safety or challenge the rule of law will not be tolerated,” ASP Thapa warned.
The captured prisoners will be sent back to jail through legal procedures. Although some inmates are still believed to be at large, bringing the majority under control is considered a significant security achievement.
Due to disorder and violent activities in various districts caused by the Gen-Z protest, security forces have been on high alert. The police have vowed to continue the operation and prevent any escape attempts by the remaining fugitives.
