Tarique Rahman, chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), was sworn in as the country’s new Prime Minister on Tuesday. The oath of office and secrecy was administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
Earlier in the day, a meeting of the BNP parliamentary party unanimously elected Rahman as its leader. After securing a majority in parliament, the BNP formed a new government under his leadership.
A new cabinet has been announced under Prime Minister Rahman, comprising 25 ministers and 24 state ministers. The list includes 23 lawmakers and two technocrats.
Senior leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Salahuddin Ahmed, and Iqbal Hasan Mahmud have been assigned key ministerial roles.
According to the party, the new government will prioritize economic reforms, strengthening democratic institutions, and administrative restructuring. The BNP’s return to power after a long period is being viewed as a significant shift in Bangladesh’s political landscape.
