Tek Bahadur Gurung of the Nepali Congress has been elected from Manang after securing 2,415 votes in the House of Representatives election.
His closest rival, Yashoda Subedi of the Nepal Communist Party, received 446 votes.
Despite his victory, Gurung will not be able to take the oath of office as a Member of Parliament. He was previously convicted by the Special Court Nepal in a corruption case related to irregularities in leasing land belonging to the Social Welfare Council Nepal at Bhrikutimandap.
On March 2023 (Falgun 15, 2079 BS), the Special Court found Gurung guilty as an accomplice in the corruption case and ordered him to pay a fine of NPR 12.1 million.
Although he has won the election, the case against him is currently under consideration at the Supreme Court of Nepal. Until the legal process is resolved, he will not be allowed to take the parliamentary oath.
