The priest of Kabir Baba Temple in Rajakpatti, Bodebarsain Municipality–8 of Saptari district, was shot dead by an unidentified person late Saturday night.
According to police, around 2:15 AM, 70-year-old priest Ramdular Sah was sitting in front of his hut near the temple when an unknown attacker opened fire at him.
Superintendent of Police Gautam Kumar KC of the District Police Office, Saptari, said that the bullet was fired from behind, entered his back, and exited near his forehead, killing him on the spot.
Police recovered two bullet casings from the incident site, while the shooter is still at large. A serious investigation into the incident is underway, and a search operation has been intensified to find the perpetrator, police said.
According to local residents, priest Sah had been living alone in the temple for years, performing daily worship and rituals. The incident has created fear and tension in the village.
