Ten local levels in Gulmi district have declared a public holiday today (Friday) on the occasion of the 44th National Magar Unity Day.
Out of the district’s 12 local units — comprising two municipalities and ten rural municipalities — ten have issued public notices announcing the holiday. The local bodies granting the holiday include Resunga Municipality, Kaligandaki Rural Municipality, Satyawati Rural Municipality, Chandrakot Rural Municipality, Ruru Kshetra Rural Municipality, Chhatrakot Rural Municipality, Gulmidarbar Rural Municipality, Isma Rural Municipality, Malika Rural Municipality, and Madane Rural Municipality.
The holiday applies to municipal offices, subordinate offices, health institutions, educational institutions, and other organizations under their jurisdiction.
Authorities stated that the Magar community’s courage, hard work, cultural diversity, and social contributions have played a significant role in making Nepali society inclusive, strong, and united. The public holiday has been granted to honor the identity, language, culture, and historical contributions of the ancient and valorous Magar community of Nepal.
Various programs reflecting Magar culture, traditions, and heritage are being organized at different locations across the district to mark the occasion.
