Three young girls lost their lives due to drowning while swimming in the Kulriya River under the Rani Jamara Irrigation System in Kailali district.
According to police, the deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Sulochana Timilsina Upadhyay of Janaki Rural Municipality-5, Nawalpur, 10-year-old Nisha Bajgai, and 8-year-old Mansi Bajgai. Nisha and Mansi were twin sisters.
Preliminary investigation suggests that one of the girls drowned while swimming, and the other two drowned while trying to rescue her.
Locals immediately attempted rescue and rushed them to Tikapur Hospital, but doctors declared all three girls dead upon arrival.
The incident occurred while Nisha and Mansi were bathing in the canal at a relative’s place. The bodies have been kept at Tikapur Hospital for post-mortem examination.
