
Three prisoners were killed on Thursday morning after the Nepali Army opened fire to control an attempted jailbreak at Ramechhap District Prison.
According to officials, inmates broke through the inner prison gate and were attempting to force open the outer gate when security forces fired shots to bring the situation under control.
- Deaths & Injuries:
- 3 inmates died after being taken to Ramechhap Hospital.
- 13 others sustained gunshot injuries, said Chief District Officer (CDO) Shyam Krishna Thapa.
Local residents of Ramechhap Bazaar reported hearing gunfire from inside the prison premises in the early morning.
The injured prisoners are currently receiving treatment at Ramechhap District Hospital.
Ramechhap Prison houses a total of 335 inmates, according to CDO Thapa. Authorities have confirmed that the situation is now under control.
