Dr. Toshima Karki, Central Committee member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has expressed dissatisfaction over accusations that she is seeking an alternative to party president Rabi Lamichhane after raising the issue of party restructuring.
According to her, her call for organizational reforms has been misinterpreted as an attempt to challenge Lamichhane’s leadership. “My intention is to strengthen the party, not to search for an alternative to Rabi Lamichhane,” Karki clarified.
She said the RSP must evolve with time and expand its political reach:
“To develop Rastriya Swatantra Party as a centrist mainstream political force in a timely manner, and to include alternative forces, civil society, and Gen Z, organizational and ideological review and restructuring within the party is necessary.”
Dr. Toshima Karki’s Appeal
- Inclusive participation in the extended meeting:
She called for active involvement of all organizational members in the upcoming extended meeting. - Democratic decision-making rights:
She demanded that participants should not only be allowed to comment on the political and organizational reports presented at the meeting, but also have the authority to accept, reject, or amend them through voting rights. - Reorganization after the Gen Z movement:
She emphasized that the party cannot go into the upcoming elections alone in its current state. “We must be liberal. The structure of the central secretariat, office bearers, and committees must be reviewed and reorganized to make the party a common platform for all alternative forces.”
She argued that after the nationwide Gen Z movement, the party needs to open doors for broader alliances and collaborations.
