Travelers on the Dauwne section of Nawalparasi along the East-West Highway are enduring severe difficulties due to deteriorating road conditions. Continuous rain on Sunday combined with ongoing road maintenance caused Deep Kafle from Kawasoti to take nearly 12 hours to travel from Bardaghat to Dauwne via Dumkibas.
Passengers complained that recent rainfall has made the road muddy and slippery, making travel extremely challenging. Although expansion work on the Narayanghat–Butwal road has begun, approximately 14 kilometers of the Dauwne section remain unfinished, prolonging the problem. The eastern stretch under Nawalparasi (Bardaghat-Susta East) is particularly problematic due to the degraded road surface.
Road works such as culvert construction and paving, combined with slippery conditions during rainfall, often force one-way traffic, causing hours-long delays. Areas near Vishwakarma Mandir, Ghyukhola, and Trisathi Mod are especially affected. Passengers also reported that the poor road and occasional vehicle breakdowns completely block traffic at times.
Following heavy congestion in Dauwne, the District Police Office, Nawalparasi East, issued a notice on Monday urging travelers to use alternative routes. Police Superintendent Yubaraj Khadka stated that vehicles were unable to climb slopes due to slippery roads and that broken-down vehicles blocked the way, worsening the situation. He requested travelers to consider alternative routes whenever possible.
