Police have arrested two individuals from Devghat Rural Municipality in Tanahun district with two illegal muzzle-loading guns.
The suspects, 40-year-old Purna Bahadur Gurung and 24-year-old Arjun Gurung, both locals, were apprehended near Risti Khola in Devghat–4. A routine patrol team deployed from the Area Police Office Saranghat detained them after finding their movements suspicious.
During the inspection, police recovered two single-barrel muzzle-loading guns loaded with gunpowder. According to police, 13 grams and 500 milligrams of a black powder-like substance resembling gunpowder, along with pieces of iron fragments, were also seized from their possession.
Information Officer and Deputy Superintendent of Police Shravan Kumar Bik from the District Police Office Tanahun said the arrests were made as part of an ongoing campaign to control illegal weapons. “Our patrol team found them carrying weapons while increasing security surveillance in rural areas,” DSP Bik stated. “Possessing illegal firearms is a punishable offense under the law, and a case under the Arms and Ammunition Act has been filed against them.”
Both individuals have been remanded to custody for seven days with permission from the Tanahun District Court. Further investigation is underway to determine the purpose for which they were carrying the weapons, according to the District Police Office Tanahun.
