Two people were killed and one seriously injured in a collision between a bus and a motorcycle on Sunday night near Jaman Toki in Golbazar Municipality–3, Siraha, along the East–West Highway.
The deceased have been identified as 37-year-old Santosh Mahato and 20-year-old Aman Rai, both residents of Dhangadhimai Municipality–8.
According to Inspector Sudhan KC, chief of the Area Police Office, Golbazar, the accident occurred when a motorcycle (registration number S5P 4759) heading east from Golbazar collided with a bus (registration number Lu2Kha 1085) traveling from Dharan to Bhairahawa. The injured victims succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment at a local health facility.
Seventeen-year-old Dhiraj Mandal was seriously injured in the incident. Police said all three victims were riding on the same motorcycle. Mandal is currently receiving treatment in Biratnagar.
The bodies of the deceased have been kept at Ram Kumar Uma Prasad Provincial Hospital in Lahan for post-mortem examination.
Police have taken the bus and its driver into custody and are conducting further investigation into the incident.
