Two more individuals have been arrested in connection with a “fake rescue” scam in Nepal’s mountaineering sector. The arrested are 28-year-old Sandeep Tiwari, a representative of Royal Holidays Adventure & Travel in Thamel, and 56-year-old Rajendra Bahadur Singh, former vice president of the Airline Operators Association.
The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police stated that a total of nine people have been arrested so far, including representatives of trekking and rescue companies, hospitals, Nepal-based employees of foreign insurance companies, and shareholder-directors of helicopter companies.
Investigations revealed that the accused falsely claimed to have rescued foreign tourists facing health issues during high-altitude treks and illegally profited by filing insurance claims.
