Two patients showing symptoms of diarrhea have died in Parsa district.
According to Dr. Uday Narayan Singh, spokesperson of Narayani Hospital, Birgunj, one patient died today during treatment before cholera testing could be conducted. Another patient undergoing treatment at Birgunj Health Care died on Friday. The District Health Office confirmed that the deaths were due to diarrhea but stated that it is yet to be determined whether they were caused by cholera.
The District Health Crisis Management Committee, chaired by Acting Chief District Officer Suman Kumar Karki, has instructed all hospitals in the district to allocate “dedicated beds” for patients with cholera and diarrhea symptoms and to manage necessary medical staff accordingly.
The meeting also decided to launch door-to-door awareness campaigns in coordination with stakeholders to prevent the spread of diarrhea. In addition, Birgunj Metropolitan City has been requested to mobilize health workers, female community health volunteers, and other agencies effectively to promote sanitation.
Authorities have further announced plans to coordinate with security agencies, local governments, political parties, professional associations, the Nepal Red Cross Society, and non-governmental organizations to provide necessary resources and launch public awareness drives against Vibrio cholerae, the bacteria responsible for cholera and diarrhea outbreaks.
