Arbind Sah, a cadre of the CPN-UML, has been arrested in Simara, Bara. Police detained him on charges of assaulting Gen-Z youths.
According to Madhes Province Police Chief DIG Govinda Thapaliya, Sah was arrested on Thursday evening following a complaint filed by the injured Gen-Z protesters.
Earlier, police had already arrested two UML-elected ward chairpersons of Jitpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City—Ward No. 2 chair Dhanbahadur Shrestha and Ward No. 6 chair Kaimdwin Ansari—on the same charge.
The situation in Simara turned tense on Wednesday after clashes erupted between UML workers and Gen-Z youths during a UML program. The Gen-Z group had staged a protest upon learning that UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel and Politburo Member Mahesh Basnet were scheduled to arrive in Simara. During the confrontation, local UML cadres allegedly assaulted the Gen-Z demonstrators.
