CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has criticized the interim government, calling it a “scarecrow”, and urged all sides to work toward restoring democracy.
Speaking on Sunday afternoon at the UML central office in Chyasal during the unveiling of the party’s 11th National General Convention logo, Oli said the country is in a difficult situation and must be brought back onto the constitutional track.
Oli questioned the earlier dissolution of the House of Representatives, stating:
“The country is facing a difficult time. Let’s restore democracy. Let’s bring the nation back to the constitutional path. They say restoring the dissolved Parliament will create chaos. Then why did they dissolve it in the first place, knowing it would cause the same chaos?”
He stressed that the unconstitutionally dissolved Parliament must be reinstated, again questioning those who claimed that its restoration would ‘ruin’ the nation.
Targeting the interim government, Oli remarked that unelected figures — whom he likened to scarecrows — belong in vegetable fields, not Singha Durbar.
“How can scarecrows run Singha Durbar? Scarecrows are never elected; someone just places them. Singha Durbar is not a place for installed scarecrows — it is for governments elected by the people through democratic processes,” he said.
Oli emphasized that Singha Durbar belongs to those who uphold democratic values. He urged political opponents not to vent their anger against the constitution, democracy, development, good governance, or national sovereignty simply because they dislike him or the UML.
He added:
“You may be angry with UML, but do not direct that anger at democracy or the nation. You may have grievances against KP Oli, but do not harm the constitution, democracy, development, good governance, or national sovereignty because of that.”
Oli concluded by saying that true representation comes not only from winning elections but from standing firmly on the side of the people.
