CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartual has said that while it is a natural democratic right of citizens to express dissent against the government, hold it accountable, or demand a new one, they must not forget their minimum duty, responsibility, and accountability towards the nation.
In a Facebook post today, Bartual clarified that democracy is not merely a tool for gaining or losing power but is directly linked to the country’s independence, sovereignty, national unity, territorial integrity, and the vitality of the constitution.
“The current government, formed through democratic parliamentary procedures, has already opened the way for the creation of a new government by respecting the voice of Gen Z on the streets. Now, Parliament must proceed to form a new government in accordance with the constitution, with the initiative and coordination of the honorable President at the earliest,” he wrote.
Bartual stressed that no political problem should be solved on the basis of momentary emotions, impulses, or short-term thinking, but only through democratic processes as mandated by the constitution.
Warning of possible grave conspiracies that could endanger the constitutional system and the nation itself, he urged everyone to remain alert. He further emphasized that the focus should not be on individual egos or immediate interests but on Nepal’s long-term welfare and the building of a better future.
