CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has accused the current government of pushing the country toward a deeper crisis instead of restoring democracy or transforming violence into peace.
Addressing the Bagmati Province–level mass gathering organized by UML at Bhrikutimandap on Saturday, Pokharel claimed that the government is not working to guide the transitional period toward political stability. He stated that the present government is incapable of managing the transitional situation.
Pokharel said, “We must understand that this government is neither here to restore democracy nor to turn violence into peace. It is not here to lead the transitional phase into stability, but rather to push the country into further crisis.” He expressed anger that the government, which came to power “under the guise of Gen-Z,” has been ignoring political parties.
He further remarked, “This government, rooted in destruction and covered by the Gen-Z movement, is undermining the principle of consensus at every step. They talk about holding elections on Falgun 21, but the Prime Minister refuses to even meet the major political leaders whom the people trust. Transitional management is impossible with such an attitude.”
Pokharel also recalled that in Nepal’s political history, even individuals from previous regimes were brought into the peace process during transitional moments, a practice he said the current government is neglecting.
