CPN-UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that KP Sharma Oli is being given the party’s leadership once again because he is the most capable leader to confront the national political challenges Nepal is currently facing.
Speaking at an event organized by the party’s 11th General Convention Publicity Committee at the UML headquarters in Chyasal on Saturday, Pokharel emphasized that everyone must recognize Oli’s proven ability to deal with complex political challenges.
He argued that reappointing Oli as party chair is necessary to safeguard the party’s prestige and future, and to effectively handle national-level political issues. Highlighting the need for unity within the party, Pokharel urged UML leaders and cadres to move forward together.
Pokharel claimed that a coordinated attempt is being made to encircle and weaken Oli—not just as an individual but as the leader of UML and the policies the party stands for. According to him, this pressure is part of a larger geopolitical strategy aimed at turning Nepal into a battleground for foreign interests.
“The attacks and encirclement we are seeing around our party chair KP Sharma Oli are not aimed at him personally,” Pokharel said. “They are intended to weaken the UML, its policies, and the nation itself. This is part of a planned geopolitical conspiracy to make Nepal a playground of foreign power rivalries.”
He added that UML, under Oli’s leadership, is the only party capable of defending Nepal’s sovereignty, dignity, and national interests—values protected by Nepali ancestors who ensured the country was never colonized.
Pokharel stressed that the general convention is not meant to establish Oli’s status, as he is already a nationally established leader. Rather, the intention is to formally entrust him with leading the party through current national challenges.
He said Nepal’s political discourse—whether in government, opposition, the streets, or Singha Durbar—continues to revolve around UML and Oli. Despite UML’s commitment to internal democracy, Pokharel emphasized that the present national situation demands unity instead of competition.
“At this moment, the party needs unity,” he said. “We must unite under Comrade KP Oli’s leadership to confront national political challenges and protect the party’s reputation and future.”
Pokharel also called on all party members to actively participate in the opening ceremony of the party’s upcoming general convention.
