CPN (UML) leader Rajendra Gautam has withdrawn his candidacy for the post of Deputy General Secretary.
Under the party’s 11th General Convention, Gautam had filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the Deputy General Secretary position on Monday. He announced the withdrawal of his candidacy through a post on social media platform Facebook.
In his message, Gautam stated that the convention is being held amid a national crisis and pressure from multiple fronts, and expressed respect for the massive public participation and support shown by the people. He said that, following the suggestion and advice of the party leadership, he decided to withdraw his candidacy in order to help ensure the victory of the entire team led by KP Sharma Oli. He added that he now hopes to receive valuable support from party members in the open central committee member category. He also expressed his gratitude.
Despite the withdrawal, Gautam’s name will remain on the ballot paper, as the final list of candidates has already been published.
