Nepal Communist Party (UML) leader Rajendra Gautam has withdrawn his candidacy for the post of Deputy General Secretary. Under the party’s 11th National Convention, he had filed his nomination as an independent candidate for the position on Monday. Gautam informed about the withdrawal of his candidacy through a post on social media platform Facebook.
In his statement, he said that the convention has entered its fourth day and is being held amid a national crisis and multiple challenges. He saluted the massive participation and public support shown by the people and made a heartfelt appeal to ensure the victory of KP Sharma Oli’s entire team. Gautam stated that, based on the advice and guidance of the party leadership, he decided to withdraw his candidacy for Deputy General Secretary. He also expressed confidence that he would receive valuable votes in the open central committee membership category decided by the party this time.
Although Gautam has withdrawn his candidacy, his name will still appear on the ballot paper as the final list of candidates has already been published.
