The CPN-UML has recommended Suhang Nembang as its candidate from Ilam Constituency No. 2 for the upcoming House of Representatives election. A meeting of the CPN-UML Ilam District Committee held on Saturday unanimously decided to recommend Nembang as the sole direct candidate from the constituency.
Suhang Nembang is also a central committee member of the CPN-UML. He was elected to the House of Representatives from the same constituency in the by-election held on Baisakh 15, 2080.
The seat had fallen vacant following the death of his father, Constituent Assembly Chair and former Speaker Subas Nembang, after which the UML fielded Suhang Nembang as its candidate.
In the by-election, Nembang defeated Nepali Congress candidate Dambar Khadka by a margin of 5,830 votes, securing a total of 27,772 votes. Recognized as a popular leader among the younger generation, Nembang has once again been put forward by the party as its candidate.
