Nepal Communist Party (UML) Vice-Chairs Yubaraj Gyawali and Ashtalakshmi Shakya have announced that they will not contest for any position in the ongoing National Congress. They stated that they are stepping back to give opportunities to new leaders.
The announcement was made during the ongoing Central Committee meeting. Both leaders have been openly aligned with the Ishwar Pokhrel faction.
The Central Committee meeting is still underway. Party Chairman KP Sharma Oli has proposed increasing the number of office-bearers to 19. However, the Ishwar Pokhrel faction has rejected Oli’s proposal.
Due to the disagreement over Oli’s proposal, the Central Committee meeting has been prolonged, affecting the closing session of the Congress that was scheduled to start at 12:30 PM.
