The Central Committee meeting of the CPN (Unified Socialist) has decided to move forward with party unification efforts with the CPN (Maoist Centre) and other like-minded political forces.
The meeting, which began on Kartik 12, entrusted the party secretariat with the responsibility of finalizing technical and organizational matters related to the unification process.
Out of the 419 Central Committee members, a majority of leaders expressed strong support for party unity, according to Vice Chairman Jagnnath Khatiwada. Senior leaders including Jhalanath Khanal, General Secretary Ghanashyam Bhusal, Ram Kumari Jhakri, Ghanendra Basnet, Bijay Paudel, Jeevan Ram Shrestha, Laxman Lamsal, Damodar Aryal, Ashesh Ghimire, Akil Husen Khan, and Hari Parajuli emphasized the need to reorganize and strengthen the communist movement.
The meeting also decided to work together with progressive and pro-change forces to protect the constitution and the current political system. Newly nominated Central Committee members took their oaths during the meeting, which also reviewed internal disputes, contemporary political proposals, and national and international developments.
Regarding the country’s current political instability, the committee concluded that holding elections is the best solution and urged the government to conduct elections with the consent and participation of all political parties.
The meeting further demanded the formation of a high-level probe committee to investigate the assets of all public officeholders. It stated that since the public still has faith in the communist movement, the leftist forces must act responsibly to bring national politics back in favor of the people.
Expressing condolences to those who lost their lives during the Gen Z protests, the meeting extended wishes for the speedy recovery of the injured, including Ravilaxmi Chitrakar, and also expressed sorrow over the death of Bipin Joshi.
