Following the unexpected defeat in the 2082 House of Representatives election, dissatisfaction has begun surfacing within the CPN-UML. Makwanpur District Chairman Shridhar Pokharel has resigned from his position, openly challenging the party’s top leadership to take responsibility.
In a public Facebook post on Sunday, Pokharel stated that he was stepping down from the chairman post to honor the will of the people. He also emphasized that all senior leaders, from the party president to the general secretary, must accept responsibility for the election results.
Pokharel described the recent outcome as a matter of serious concern in the long political journey of CPN-UML. He criticized the tendency to respond in vague or ambiguous terms without identifying the root causes of the problems, warning that such behavior could further weaken the party.
He further stated that the party leadership must conduct a thorough self-assessment, restructure as needed, and, if necessary, step aside to open the way for a new direction.
