Lalit Bahadur Wali, the father of renowned singer and former Member of Parliament Komal Wali, has passed away at the age of 85. He died on Friday after falling from the rooftop of his residence in Tulsipur, Dang, while going upstairs to bask in the sun.
Singer Wali shared the news of her father’s “maha-prasthan” (final departure) through social media. According to her, his mortal remains have been kept at their private residence, “Deepa–Lalit Niwas,” near Bahini Gate in Tulsipur, for final श्रद्धाञ्जली (tributes) and last respects.
Late Lalit Bahadur Wali was not only a parent but also an active figure in Dang’s literary and social spheres. Born on Mangsir 15, 1998 B.S., he authored two published works: Darpan (a collection of national songs) and Matribhoomi (a poetry collection).
Seven of his songs were recorded at Radio Nepal, including Deusi-Bhailo, Teej songs, and devotional hymns. He was also a skilled singer himself and even modeled in many of Komal Wali’s songs. According to her, she had been planning to record some of her father’s songs when this unexpected tragedy occurred.
Lalit held important roles in various social and literary organizations in Dang. He was a member of the Dang Senior Citizens District Association, Dang Literary Foundation, Music and Drama Academy, and Prithvi Narayan Shah Foundation, Tulsipur. In honor of his dedication to senior citizens, the family had also established a “Senior Citizens Foundation.”
Although he did not suffer from any major illness, he had grown physically weak due to age. Family sources say that he had been mentally distressed following the death of his wife (Komal Wali’s mother) some time ago.
