Today, people across Nepal are worshipping Lord Vishwakarma and celebrating Vastu Day along with the Vishwakarma Puja festival. Every year, this festival is observed on Kanya (Ashwin) Sankranti with the ritual worship of Lord Vishwakarma.
In various factories and workshops, the idol or picture of Lord Vishwakarma is worshipped. On this day, artisans (especially blacksmiths, carpenters, mechanics, and metalworkers) also worship the tools they use, believing that such rituals will make their tools last longer, prevent breakdowns during work, and help produce better results. According to this belief, machines and vehicles fitted with engines are also worshipped today.
As per mythology, during the Dwapar Yuga, when demons troubled Lord Krishna, Vishwakarma is believed to have built Bhed-Dwarka in the middle of the sea overnight, where Krishna was hidden. Since then, Vishwakarma has been regarded as a divine architect and engineer, and people have continued the tradition of worshipping him.
Scholars of Vastu Shastra say that this day is also observed as Vastu Day in memory of the authors and researchers of Vastu scriptures.
