Today, February 27, is being observed worldwide as World NGO Day. The United Nations marks this day every year to recognize and encourage the contributions of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) toward social upliftment. The fundamental purpose of the day is to celebrate support and cooperation.
This year’s theme for World NGO Day is “Restoring Respect through Inclusion.” The day highlights the role of NGOs in protecting the rights of marginalized, disadvantaged, and underprivileged communities, empowering them, and ensuring their equal participation in society.
On this occasion, awareness programs are being organized globally to promote the reduction of discrimination, enhancement of humanity, and community-based development. The day also honors the contributions of NGOs in social transformation, education, health, women and child rights, and environmental protection.
