Gagan Thapa, President of the Nepali Congress, has described the upcoming election as a “compulsion election.”
Addressing an election mass meeting organized by the Nepali Congress in Surkhet, Thapa said the current election is an essential condition to keep Nepal’s Constitution on the right track. He stated that the party has already fulfilled its responsibility to ensure the election’s success and emphasized that the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 should not be forgotten in the context of the upcoming election on Falgun 21.
“This election is a compulsion election. It is also a necessary condition to keep our Constitution on track. The Nepali Congress has played its role in making the election successful. In the context of the Falgun 21 election, we must not forget what happened on Bhadra 23 and 24,” he said.
Thapa stressed that there should no longer be a situation where any citizen loses their life due to government gunfire, nor should anyone wearing a mask be allowed to set Singha Durbar on fire. He argued that to create such a situation, the events of Bhadra 23 and 24 must be seriously evaluated during the election process.
He also accused certain forces of attempting to deny what happened on those dates, rejecting the claim that everything in the country was normal before the incidents.
Stating that Nepal’s politics has become “dirty and polluted,” Thapa blamed coalition politics for contaminating the overall political environment. He asserted that the Nepali Congress stands with a different vision and commitment to clean up what he described as polluted politics. He further expressed the party’s ambition to make the five-year period from 2082 to 2087 a “golden era” for the nation and its people.
