Two men have gone missing after being swept away while swimming in the Kaligandaki River in Palpa.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Day when 39-year-old Sharan Bhusal and 29-year-old Toyanath Basyal, both from Bagnaskali Rural Municipality-9, were carried away by the river’s current.
According to police, the incident happened around 4:45 PM on Tuesday while they were swimming in the river at Bagnaskali-7.
The four men had gone to the river together to swim. Out of the group, two were swept away, while the other two managed to survive by swimming to safety.
Police said the two survivors saw their friends being carried nearly 80 meters downstream but were unable to rescue them.
A search operation for the missing individuals began Tuesday night and resumed again on Wednesday morning.
