Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has stated that the government is fully committed to the current Constitution.
Speaking at a meeting of the Inter-Governmental Fiscal Council and its thematic committee held today, he clarified that the government’s policy is to implement the Constitution honestly and faithfully.
He acknowledged that there may be dissatisfaction with some provisions of the Constitution, but said such issues can be addressed through amendments as provided within the constitutional framework itself. He said, “The government is fully loyal to the present Constitution. Implementing it with integrity is our responsibility. If there are concerns or provisions that need improvement, the party can consider them in accordance with the articles mentioned in the Constitution.”
He informed that the government has set a target to raise around NPR 1.48 trillion in revenue in the current fiscal year. However, he noted that achieving this target has become challenging due to both internal and external factors.
He further said, “Alliances among political interest groups have held the entire country hostage. The government is taking action, but our aim is to ensure that the same rules apply to everyone. We are trying to break the system where a few businessmen and political figures hold the whole country hostage and suppress the hopes of the younger generation.”
