Vice Chair of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML), Bishnu Paudel, has said the party must conduct a serious review of its recent electoral defeat and focus on organizational restructuring. Through a Facebook post, he questioned the timing of the ongoing debate about “left unity” being raised both inside and outside the party, stating that it is not relevant at this moment.
Paudel noted that the election results are worrying for the UML and emphasized that the party’s current priority should be deep self-assessment and strengthening of its organization. He wrote, “It is not appropriate to divert attention elsewhere without clearly analyzing the real causes of the defeat.”
He also expressed suspicion that the renewed discussion on “left unity” at this time could be a planned attempt happening behind the scenes. “One must ask who is raising this debate and for what purpose,” he wrote. “When the party needs to focus on strengthening its organization, the intention behind introducing irrelevant issues should be clear.”
Paudel stressed the need to prioritize internal unity within the UML, mobilize party workers effectively, and restore public trust. He further highlighted the importance of rebuilding the party’s relationship with the people and preparing it for the upcoming political journey
