The Election Commission is reviewing the closed lists submitted by political parties for the proportional representation system ahead of the House of Representatives election scheduled for Falgun 21. The commission is calling parties one by one to point out errors. After verifying the lists and discussing with party representatives, the commission plans to formally communicate corrections to the parties on Poush 20.
Assistant Spokesperson of the Commission, Kul Bahadur Jisi, stated that the commission is checking whether parties have correctly organized inclusive groups (clusters) and is holding discussions with the relevant party representatives. He added that discussions were held with representatives of 12 parties on Wednesday, and meetings with another 12 parties are scheduled today.
The commission received closed lists from 64 political parties on Poush 13 and 14. Of these, only 22 parties nominated candidates for all 110 constituencies. On average, parties are submitting candidates for 60 election symbols, while 10 parties submitted lists for a minimum of 11 constituencies. Additionally, 10 parties have single-symbol representation, the commission noted.
Although 93 parties applied to participate under this system, only 64 submitted closed lists. The commission will give parties time to adjust their lists from Poush 21 to 27, and from Poush 28 to Magh 3, it will verify the updated lists. The final proportional representation list is scheduled to be published on Magh 20.
Experts in statistics, technology, and law are engaged at the office of the election officer established by the commission for conducting elections under this system.
