A protest was held today at the EPS (Employment Permit System) office in Gwarko, Lalitpur, demanding that Nepali youth be sent to South Korea for employment.
The demonstrators are young people who passed the language test two years ago and were placed on the roster under the EPS system but have not yet been sent to Korea due to delays.
Despite an agreement reached two months ago between the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security and the protesting group, the government has not progressed the necessary procedures, prompting the youths to launch the protest. Rajan Dhungana, a language-test-qualified youth from Nuwakot, said the protest arose because even after two years, they have not been able to go to Korea.
He also complained that the government opened applications for more candidates than the quota allowed, preventing deserving candidates from getting the opportunity. Additionally, the state has created a double burden for them by failing to advance the process to send workers abroad.
For the year 2025, 163,000 candidates participated in the exam, out of which 17,030 passed the language test. Most of these successful candidates have not yet signed contracts and therefore have not been able to go to Korea.
